Daily Devotional 3-20-20

Good morning everyone. I’m pastor Greg and I’m thrilled to have these few moments to share with you from God’s word this morning.

The Psalmist in Psalm 118:24 says, “This is the day which the Lord has made. Let us rejoice and be glad in it.” As you and I begin our new day, let’s consider what the apostle Paul has to say about joy in his letter to the Philippians. Even in the midst of his imprisonment for his faith, Paul was still able to rejoice, absolutely amazing.

He says in Philippians 4:4-7 “Rejoice in the Lord always again, I will say rejoice. Let your gentle spirit be known to all men. The Lord is near. Be anxious for nothing but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving, let your request be made known to God. And the peace of God which transcends all comprehension will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

Notice four things the apostle Paul says about attitudes and actions when facing trials.

First, having an attitude of joy and that attitude of joy transcends anything that’s based on what’s going on around us. It’s based on our rock foundation that we have with God through Jesus Christ.

The second thing he talks about is having a gentle spirit. Boy, that’s really tough in a day like today when we have a lot of changes and challenges going on around us, but being gentle to those around us.

He also says, be anxious for nothing. You know, I’m reminded of another Bible verse that says, “Cast all your cares and anxieties on him for he cares for you.” And I have to remind myself to do that, but being anxious for nothing.

And the last one is having the peace of God. And I think all of these are qualities that not only the Lord can accomplish through us as we begin our day, but there are also opportunities for testimony for us. As the Lord enables us to have these qualities in our lives other people began to notice and they ask us about that.

So whenever you’re facing today, think about these four qualities and I’d like to just say a short prayer.

Heavenly Father, thank you for this day. I ask that you would just encourage us to have that attitude of joy in our hearts. Lord, we ask that we would have a gentle spirit with those around us. Help us not to be anxious, but to cast our cares upon you and Lord, thank you for the peace that you give us through the Lord Jesus Christ. We ask this in Jesus’ name.
