Hey everybody, it’s pastor Bill. Well here in Arizona, swimming pools are very important. I don’t know if you know this, but it gets kind of hot around here every so often. I have a pool at my house and this morning I woke up early and I took my pool filter apart to give it a good cleaning. You got to do this every so often. And as always, I was amazed at just how dirty the filter was. You know, I’m so thankful for my pool filter because it’s at work every day, removing all the dirt and grime from my pool, making the water nice for my family.

Now, why do I tell you that? Well, in much the same way the Holy Spirit is at work in the lives of believers, removing the sin and wickedness that is often present in our lives, purifying our lives so that we might grow in holiness.

The theological term for this process is sanctification. It’s a big word with a simple meaning. Sanctification is simply the process by which the Holy Spirit causes believers to grow in holiness.

2 Thessalonians 2:13 says this, “God shows you as the first fruits to be saved, through sanctification by the Spirit and belief in the truth” (ESV). Again, it’s a big word with a simple meaning. Sanctification is the process by which the Holy Spirit causes believers to grow in holiness.

Well, the challenge today is simple. Remain sensitive to the Holy Spirit’s work in your life, thanking him always for your ever-increasing holiness as a child of God.

Until next time, stay safe. And God bless.
