Daily Devotional 5-20-20

Hi everybody. Some of you might recognize me and all of this getup and some might not, but my name is John Foster. I am one of the ACC board members, and I wanted to do a short devotional today while I’m out doing something I love.

The mountain, mountain biking, and South mountain, it’s beautiful out here. And the more I’m outside and riding, the more God comes to mind when I’m out here. He’s the creator of all things, but the similes in light, the parallels that we find to the Bible are numerous if we’re paying attention.

The one that I had that I wanted to share with you today is based on the verse in 2 Corinthians 10:5. Paul is talking about spiritual warfare in these verses, and verse five says, “Take every thought captive and make it obedient to Christ” (NIV).

That hits home in a lot of ways, specifically when I’m under spiritual attack. I think it’s easy in this world to get caught up in what society is doing, what man says about what will happen or how we came to be in this world. So evolution, you know, the idolizing and worshiping of other gods, that’s all spiritual warfare.

But the great news is that if we compare what we’re hearing, what we’re seeing, and even what we’re thinking to what God has told us in his Word, the falseness of it will easily, easily be teased out. And that’s what I like about this.

Even in my daily thought-life, the way I think about situations I’m in at work, at home, even out here riding, for example, if a thought comes to mind that I happened to be a very competitive person, but the thought comes to mind that, “Hey, I’m not good enough. I’m not fast enough. I can’t beat that guy.” If I make those thoughts obedient to Christ… What does God say about that? Well, God says that I’m okay just the way I am, whether I’m having a really good day or a really bad day, and everybody else is exactly how he made them, which is exactly how we’re supposed to be.

So I wanted to share that with you today. I hope that helps. I hope it relates to you all on some level and just want to encourage you with that today. God bless.
