Daily Devotional 7-21-20

Well, hey everybody. As I was reading the news this morning, I saw that NASA has taken new pictures of the sun closer than they ever have before. The pictures are truly spectacular. The sun is a magnificent star.

What is amazing is that the sun is about 95 million miles away from the earth. That’s really, really far. To put that into perspective, if you were traveling in a car at a hundred miles an hour, straight to the sun, driving 24 hours a day nonstop, it would take you a little over 106 years to reach the sun. And yet, if I were to go outside today and try to look at the sun, I wouldn’t be able to do it because even though it’s 95 million miles away, it’s still too bright to look at.

Now, here’s why that’s important. Because if you think the sun is magnificent to look at, then imagine how much more beautiful is the one who created that sun.

1 Timothy 6:16 says, “[The Lord] dwells in unapproachable light” (ESV). And this is a powerful reminder of just how holy, pure, and righteous the Lord truly is. There is no impurity or sin in the Lord whatsoever. But that poses a problem for you and me, because we are anything but holy, pure, and righteous. I certainly haven’t led a perfect life, far from it. And neither have you.

The Bible calls that sin, and sin separates us from God. But here’s the good news: God who is rich in mercy, sent his one and only sinless son, Jesus Christ, into the world because Jesus was sinless. He could take the punishment that sinners deserved. And that’s exactly what he did. The Bible says that all who repent and call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. So let today be the day that you repent of your sin and put your faith in the sinless son of God. He’s the one that can save your soul.

Take care, and God bless.
